Playlist for January Comics workshop
Playlist for my LGBTIQA+ comics workshop consisting of songs by 3 LGBTIQA+ artists - Wild, AC Lavender and myself. This playlist is about highlighting Bandcamp as a platform that supports artists. This music was either purchased for download by me or composed by me.
Why the encouragement to move away from or include alternatives to Spotify (see below).*
Please support artists and give Bandcamp a whirl!
BANDCAMP vs SPOTIFY
As recently revealed, Spotify donated $150000 to the Tr*mp ceremony. While Spotify is fairly embedded (forgive the pun!) in many music lover and/or artists’ lives, including mine (!) I am inviting listeners and musicians to consider other options, at least some of the time.
Pros:
Bandcamp supports artists who can sell music, physical copies and merchandise.
That said, you can often stream music (including whole albums) for free or a donation.
It’s more intentional.
Cons:
It is understandably way more of a faff and requires spoons to actively select the next track or set-up playlists on music players such as itunes.
It can be costly to purchase tracks.
It doesn’t automatically find artists you might be interested in, but you can use tags or ask around!
E.g, I’ve been borrowing books from the library and this year however I do try and buy them as well when I can. When I do buy books and merch, rather than corps like Am-z-n, where possible, I try to buy directly from the author, artist or independent retailers such as Argonaut Books, The Bookish Type, Common Press, Gays The Word, Juniper by the Sea, The Children’s bookshop (Muswell Hill) at pop-ups, online or in-store!
